Overview

About This Policy

FamilyCart ("we", "our", or "the app") is a collaborative grocery shopping application developed by Optiwise. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use FamilyCart. We are committed to protecting your privacy and collecting only the minimal data necessary to provide our service.

Our Privacy Commitment

FamilyCart is designed with privacy at its core. We do not require account creation, we do not track your behavior, we do not show ads, and we never sell your data. Your grocery lists are your business—we just help you share them with your family.

Information We Collect

Display Name

When you join a group, you provide a display name so other group members can identify who added items. This is the only personal information we collect. You can use any name you choose—it does not need to be your real name.

Shopping List Data

We store the shopping lists you create, including item names, quantities, store assignments, and completion status. This data is necessary to provide the core functionality of shared lists.

Group Information

We store group names and membership to enable list sharing. Groups are identified by randomly generated codes, not personal information.

Device Information

For push notifications (if enabled), we collect your device token. We also collect basic device information (device type, OS version) for troubleshooting purposes.

What We Don't Collect

No Account Required

We do not require or collect email addresses, phone numbers, passwords, or any account credentials. You can use FamilyCart completely anonymously.

No Tracking

We do not use analytics trackers, advertising identifiers, or any technology to track your behavior across apps or websites.

No Location Data

We do not collect or track your location. Your shopping trips remain private.

How We Use Your Information

Provide Core Services

We use your display name to show who added items to shared lists. We store your shopping lists to sync them across your devices and share them with your group members.

Send Notifications

If you enable push notifications, we use your device token to notify you when group members add items or when lists are updated. You can disable notifications at any time.

Third-Party Services

Firebase (Google Cloud)

We use Firebase for real-time data synchronization and cloud storage. Your shopping list data is stored on Firebase servers. Firebase Privacy Policy: https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy

Apple Services

We use Apple Push Notification service (APNs) for notifications and iCloud for optional backup. Apple Privacy Policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/

Data Storage and Security

Local Storage

Your shopping lists are stored locally on your device for offline access. This data remains on your device unless you choose to sync with a group.

Cloud Storage

When you join or create a group, your shared list data is stored on Firebase servers to enable real-time synchronization. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.

Data Retention

Shopping list data is retained as long as the group exists. When you leave a group, your association with that group is removed. When a group is deleted, all associated data is permanently deleted.

Your Rights and Choices

Access Your Data

All your data is visible within the app. You can see your lists, groups, and display name at any time.

Delete Your Data

You can leave groups to remove your association with shared lists. You can delete lists you created. Uninstalling the app removes all local data from your device.

Manage Notifications

You can enable or disable push notifications at any time through the app settings or your device's notification settings.

Children's Privacy

Family Use

FamilyCart is designed for family use, including children under parental supervision. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent. Since we only collect display names (which can be nicknames), the app can be safely used by children as part of family shopping coordination.

Changes to This Policy

Policy Updates

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the "Last Updated" date and, for material changes, through an in-app notification. Your continued use of FamilyCart after changes indicates acceptance of the updated policy.
